At 750 feet, the Tower of the Americas definitely stands out along the downtown San Antonio skyline. The tower, designed by San Antonio architecht O’Neil Ford, was built as the theme structure of the 1968 World’s Fair. In fact, until 1998, the tower was the tallest observation tower in the U.S.
Located in the middle of HemisFair Park, the tower’s observation deck offers a breathtaking 360 degree view of the city below. Photographs on the deck’s floor pinpoint landmarks to help you identify your surroundings. Visitors can even learn about the history of our city including Mexico’s attack at the Alamo, French explorer Louis St. Denis’ mapping of the Camino Real Trail, Spain’s domination of Texas for more than 300 years and much more!
The observation deck is accessible via elevator for a fee, but if you choose to dine at the tower’s revolving restaurant, you can take in the sights for free! The view…spectacular. The food…mouthwatering. And the service…exceptional! Sit back, relax, and experience a delectable meal on top of the city.
